A Review

Yes, I know the play has been around awhile. Yes, I know other’s have critiqued it. Yet, I am going to add my two-cents. Why? Because I love the show, the songs, the theatre and if you blew it off the first 513483414343 times it came to your city, you may want to reconsider.

I had the pleasure of first seeing it off-broadway in September 2009 in the City. It was an event to be sure; first, going into the City is an adventure in itself.

I love the Four Seasons. I love their songs, I love their style but most of all I love Frankie Valli and his dramatic singing style. I knew every word to every song. Or so I thought. While watching the play, I had every intention of singing every word to every song right along with them. However, I sat enthralled. Both times. The second time, attending the play at my local performing arts center.

Both the songs and the story are riveting. And the way it’s presented; striking both a humorous and serious vein keeps your attention on the actors, who in both cases melded completely into the Four Seasons. I got to know each of the real Four Seasons members in a personal way, as I became absorbed in the telling of their story. The actor, Joseph Leo Bwarie was impressive as Frankie Valli in his demeanor and vocal range. Matt Bailey, Steve Gouveia and Quinn Vanantwerp were equally impressive in their roles as the other three members of the group. Their vocal blend was incredible.

When the Jersey Boys come to your performing arts center, I highly recommend you make plans to see the show. It is well worth your time and money. This show’s performance quality was the same excellent standard that you would see off or on broadway in the City.

Thanks James. I grew up singing their songs and the play is excellent.
