Weight Watchers Points and Plans
61Weight Watchers has changed their formula and you cannot use the OLD points with the NEW formula or vice versa. You have to pick a plan and stick to it. Everything on line is geared towards the new POINTS PLUS plan and it is recommend you trash all the old information and embrace the new.
29 points per day is the now the new 18, 49 points per week is the new 35 and activity points are still included and encouraged.
The new formula does not count calories. It combines fiber, fats, carbohydrates and protein, driving you to eat more healthy with protein and fiber. Protien and fiber taking the longest to digest, therefore keeping you fuller for a longer period of time.
So as you embrace the new 29 as your daily, those are points based on a variety of information; your age, weight, height and how active you are. And 29 points per day is the minimum, and based on the criteria above, you may have more daily points, that will decrease as you lose weight and meet milestones. So while your points increase on the new plan, they changed for the foods, increasing or decreasing based on the new formula. For example, bananas used to be 2 points, apples 2 points and berries 1 based on serving sizes. They are now free and/or zero points, however, you still need to be careful not to get carried away by eating too much (as in all eating plans portion control is key). Weight watchers yogart that was 1 point is now 2 points. Skinny cow ice cream used to be 2 points are now 4. etc......
I recommend you go to meetings because with every new rollout there are discrepancies and the leaders are aware of this and can give you the ins and outs. You are also intellectually automatically falling back on the old plan because you had it memorized and it became second nature, you now have to learn a new plan with new points.
I'm still learning the new plan, and I admit I have concerns because of what I consider are drastic changes, but the more I learn, the more confortable I am becoming in relying that the experts who put this together actually know what they're doing. I also use the on-line tools which keep all the information at my finger tips and when I'm either at a store or in a restaurant I can calculate points quickly and make healthy choices in a real time scenario.
I would totally recommend WW because they incorporate every day foods into every day life. You have a choice on what foods you want to eat and if you choose to "cheat" you include that in your daily allowance and YOU really haven't cheated or sabotaged your eating plan, but you satisfied a desire and craving without GUILT.

"Great hub!" I'm going to sign-up soon. I don't need to lose a lot of weight, but need to learn what to eat and correct portion size for a healthy lifestyle.
Stick with it -- you'll get where you want to be :)
Thanks for the advice. I agree that attending meetings is better than trying to do it at home. I am well on my way, I am attending meetings and have lost 10 pounds so far. 40 more pounds to go.
